You Need a Website, Copywriter!
I’ve met so many new copywriters that don’t believe they need a website. Well, not at first, anyway. They figure they’ll worry about setting one up after they start making some money.
I get it. I really do. You see a website as just another expense – one that you might not be able to afford.
Hey, we’ve all been there. But your copywriter website isn’t just an expense. It’s an investment in your business.
Do you know how many companies search online for a copywriter? A lot. And what’s going to happen if you don’t have a website? You won’t come up in the search engine results. You won’t be considered for potentially lucrative opportunities. And you end up leaving a ton of money on the table.
But that’s not the only reason you need a copywriting website – although it’s a darn good one. A website…
1. Establishes your professionalism and credibility. How many times have you looked for a new plumber online? Who were you more likely to hire? The plumber with a full website detailing his services and his fees? Or the plumber without a website? If you’re anything like me, you’ll feel most comfortable choosing the plumber with the website. It makes him seem more professional… and more trustworthy.
Well, the same thing goes for your copywriting website. It establishes you as a professional and an expert. And that inspires trust in potential clients.
2. Gives you a place to showcase your copywriting samples. When a prospective client requests samples, it’s downright awkward (and expensive) to FedEx paper copies to his office. And it’s a lot of unnecessary work to attach them to emails that may or may not reach your client’s in-box.Setting up a portfolio page on your website is the easiest, most pain-free way to share your samples with others. If a prospective client wants to see them to get a clear picture of your writing style and tone, simply send a link. Boom, that’s it.
3. Allows you to highlight your unique skills and show off your writing chops.Having your own copywriting website allows you to show potential clients what makes YOU different from other copywriters – and why you’re the best person for the job. Plus, it lets you display your copywriting skills and serves as yet another sample of the work you can do.
4. Provides the perfect placeholder for your testimonials.Of course, if you’re just starting out, you may not have any testimonials yet. But as you write copy for clients, ask the ones that are happy with your work for testimonials. Having these positive remarks about your abilities displayed on your website provides social proof that you know your stuff. And it can reassure potential clients about your reliability and competence.
5. Lets you display your services and/or pricing information.I think it’s always great to list the services you offer on your website. It helps potential clients to see if you have the skills that they need. However, listing your pricing is totally up to you. Some copywriters like to be totally transparent with the fees that they charge, so they put them on their website for all to see. Others may show a price range for different services. Still others prefer the prospective client contact them directly for pricing. Whatever way you want to handle pricing is absolutely fine. But if you do want to put it out there for clients to see, a website is a great place to do it.
6. Makes it easy to communicate with you.Your website can have a Contact page, which makes it simple for potential clients to get in touch with you.
7. Allows you to offer more value. If you have your own website, you can write blog posts about copywriting that would be helpful to prospective clients. This helps establish your expertise in your field – making hiring you to write copy a no-brainer. Plus, it could also attract visitors to your website.
8. Gives you the ability to reach potential clients beyond your local area.Having your own copywriting website opens up the world to you. Literally. It allows you to expand your reach across our nation and beyond. And for you, that means exponentially more opportunities to get paid to write copy.
Honestly, it would be very difficult to launch and scale your copywriting business without a website. It’s an essential tool for any copywriter looking to attract clients and build a sustainable business.
