What To Do When Your Income Plateaus

It was 2021. I was writing for a financial publisher and finally had the opportunity to make more money than I’ve ever seen in my freelance copywriting career.

Yeah, it took me working many nights and weekends to meet deadlines, but my eyes were on the prize. I knew that I would eventually write a winning promotion that would dump a truckload of royalties into my lap. And when that happened, the long hours would be totally worth it.

Then, my elderly mother had a stroke – and my entire world imploded.

I was suddenly thrust into the role of caregiver. I didn’t have long hours to devote to writing copy anymore. Heck, I hardly had any time at all. But the workload refused to ease up.

Things got even more difficult in 2022 when my stepdad caught Covid – and it wreaked havoc with his cognition and balance. He still hasn’t fully recovered yet. So, I had to take care of him as well.

I was absolutely overwhelmed. So, when my financial publishing gig ended, I abandoned that niche completely. Instead, I nabbed a retainer contract with a health supplement company. I still had deadlines, but the projects were smaller and easier to write. There was just one problem…

No royalties.

My copywriting income became stagnant. Yeah, I was doing okay. But I wanted more than that. Besides, the price of gas, food, rent, and just about everything was shooting through the roof. And my income… wasn’t. I knew I had to do something about it fast.
